Graphical serial terminal programs are rare under Linux and CoolTerm is one of those still available and a good one!

Installed the whole package into /opt/, but running CoolTerm it supersizes me with creating an additional folder in /user/home/

Any way, to prevent CoolTerm from doing so and using the /opt/CoolTerm/ path?

I'm afraid that's not possible. The files placed in /home/USERNAME/CoolTerm are user specific.
